The question posed, both simple in its formulation and structuring in its consequences, was: what specific contribution can International Geneva make to global governance of Ocean resilience, without replacing existing frameworks, but by helping to connect them, make them more operational and mobilize citizens, territories and institutions more broadly; in short, help activate and accelerate what already exists?
This meeting confirmed that the Ocean can no longer be considered solely the concern of coastal countries. It also concerns landlocked countries, inland cities, education systems, economic chains, scientists, funders, citizens and younger generations. The Ocean is a climate regulator, a major source of oxygen, an economic space, a security issue, a living heritage, a subject of international law, a field of innovation and a global common good.
